The client & the
question they asked.
Spotify is a global leader in digital music streaming, shaping how artists create, distribute, and share music worldwide.
With hundreds of millions of users and a growing presence across music, podcasts, and emerging media, the company operates at the intersection of technology, culture, and creative production. As part of its continued expansion, Spotify sought to strengthen its presence in Los Angeles—one of the world’s most influential centers of music and entertainment—by establishing a workplace deeply connected to the city’s creative energy.
The company’s evolving workplace philosophy emphasizes flexibility, experimentation, and collaboration, reflecting the rapidly changing nature of music production and media development. Spotify envisioned an environment that could function simultaneously as a workplace, creative platform, and cultural destination—one that supports artists, employees, and industry partners while reinforcing the company’s role as a catalyst within the global music ecosystem.
The brief, in
specifics.
Spotify commissioned a multipurpose workplace inspired by Los Angeles’ music culture and the concept of a “hackable” work environment—an adaptable space capable of supporting evolving modes of collaboration, research, and production.
The project encompassed three buildings totaling 115,000 square feet and was required to accommodate a wide range of activities, from focused work environments to live performances, artist engagement, and research and development initiatives.
A central challenge was to create an environment that supports both established and emerging artists. The design needed to provide privacy and security for high-profile talent while also fostering visibility, interaction, and opportunity for new voices. The workplace was required to enable informal exchange between artists and staff, support spontaneous performances, and integrate music production directly into the daily experience of the office.
The brief also called for a highly flexible spatial framework capable of adapting to the rapidly evolving music industry. The workplace needed to function as a dynamic ecosystem—one that could evolve with changing technologies, workflows, and cultural practices while embodying Spotify’s identity as a platform shaped by participation and exchange.

A new paradigm for the workplace—where culture, technology, creativity, human exchange and content creation converge.
The outcomes —
what we designed.
The design reimagines the workplace as a microcosm of Los Angeles’ music culture—a dynamic environment where work, performance, and social exchange converge.
Organized around a flexible and modular spatial framework, the campus supports multiple modes of engagement, allowing spaces to adapt as creative practices evolve.
A central “main street” organizes the workplace as a sequence of collaborative environments, embedding artist listening lounges and performance areas within everyday work zones. These spaces enable informal interaction between artists and staff while supporting impromptu pop-up performances that activate the environment throughout the day.
The design accommodates artists at different stages of their careers. Established artists are provided secluded green rooms, private production access, and hospitality-driven amenities that offer refuge and discretion. Emerging artists are given more visible pathways through the campus, fostering connection, discovery, and opportunity.
Through its adaptable structure and layered programming, the workplace functions as both a creative platform and cultural venue—supporting research, collaboration, and live music within a single environment. The result establishes a new paradigm for the future of media workplaces, redefining the office as an active participant in cultural production and a living expression of music as a shared social experience.
